Statistics Canada is getting ready to hire staff
for the 2006 Census
The next Census of Canada will take place on Tuesday, May
16, 2006. This summer, Statistics Canada will be hiring
about 700 people in Ontario to work on the first phase of
the 2006 Census. For the 2006 Census, 70 per cent of Ontario
households will receive their Census questionnaire in the
mail. The goal of the first major activity, the Block Canvas,
is to verify that all mailing lists are complete and accurate.
Statistics Canada is seeking enthusiastic, energetic, thorough,
and organized individuals to verify address lists in specific
geographic areas. The positions available are:
- Crew Leader
- Quality Control Technician
- Enumerator
Pay rates and length of contracts vary for
each position. Crew Leaders make $600 per week while non-supervisory
positions such as Enumerators make $11.88 per hour. Supervisory
positions start in late July and are expected to last between
10 and 14 weeks. Enumerator positions are shorter in duration
and may vary depending on the geographic area.
Students and those seeking full-time temporary
employment may find Census work a perfect fit. Individuals
fluent in English and/or French and other languages are
strongly encouraged to apply.

Intergrated Clinical Service Workers

The successful applicants will ideally hold a Bachelors
or Masters Degree in Social Work or related field.
In addition, the individual will have a minimum
of five years extensive clinical (social work) experience
with families, children and youth; be able to apply theory
and conceptual understanding to practice; be able to plan
and implement a variety of interventions, make differential
use of various treatment modalities and counselling practices;
conduct and document thorough family and larger systems
assessments; possess theoretical and evidence based knowledge
of human development, social environment and community systems
and context; and be able to work independently as well as
part of a team.
The successful candidate will provide a case
coordination function to all cases on their case load that
are active and waiting for service; have demonstrated competency
in verbal, written and applied communication/interpersonal
skills with clients, collaterals and colleagues; demonstrate
both an understanding of cultural diversities and an ability
to integrate a cross cultural practice; a willingness to
work flexible hours which include evenings and some weekends
as required; demonstrated excellent time management and
organizational skills; demonstrated computer literacy and
familiarity with computer technology for data entry.
The successful candidates must be familiar
with a variety of family systems models and experience and
competency in conducting these family system interventions.
The successful candidate must be able to administer a variety
of clinical tools including the the CAFAS. A valid driver’s
license and a police screening are required.

Residential Worker (40
hrs./wk.) and
Family Support Service Residential Worker (40 hrs./wk.)

Reporting to the Coordinator
of Residential Services, the successful candidates are a
member of a multi-disciplinary team, responsible for the
delivery of services in an 8 bed residential setting, for
severely disturbed latency aged children.
Qualifications:
- The successful applicants will possess
a Child and Youth Worker diploma from a Community College
or a Bachelor of Arts degree in a related field or equivalent
combination of education and experience
- A minimum of three years experience post
graduation, working in a residential setting with latency
aged children and their families
- Experience in utilizing a variety of
interventions, skilled in milieu counselling, assessment
and treatment
- Specific knowledge of the Child Welfare
system, the Child & Family Service Act
- Formal crisis intervention training (CPI
or TCI is a requirement)
- Ability to work under pressure and in
crisis situations
- Confident decision maker and enthusiastic
team player
- Committed to upholding the organization’s
mission, values and standards
- Requirements prior to hiring include
up-to-date Police Check, valid First Aid and CPR, medical
clearance from doctor and proof of immunizations
- Demonstrated excellent communication,
organizational, time management and writing skills
- Required to respond to a flexible work
schedule involving rotating shifts and weekends, or as
required
- A valid Ontario license and a reliable
motor vehicle
