“The
Road to Asia Festival 2004” presented by Japanese
Canadian Cultural Centre has ended successfully. This event
had taken place on November 6th and 7th, 2004 at Japanese Canadian
Cultural Centre. The Road to Asia
Festival 2004 is a two-day festival celebrating the richness
and exciting diversity of Asian culture. The festival creates
a thriving multicultural atmosphere including - dance, music,
arts and crafts, martial arts and wonderful food from all of
the participating countries.
The opening
ceremony began at noon on November 6th with a lively Lion Dance.
The President of Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, Martin Kobayashi,
gave thanks to all the guests attending to show their support.
Special
acknowledgement was given to VIP guests including several Asian
Consul Generals and our FCCM Chairman Dr. Ken Ng. Afterwards,
there were a lot of splendid performances, like: the famous
Japanese Taiko Drumming, the
sound of the drums could be heard everywhere in the centre.
This year’s festival showcased a rich mix of eleven different
Asian cultures. Participating countries included: the Philippines,
Malaysia, Tibet, India, Thailand, China,
Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Japan.
Markham
Chinese Cultural Centre of FCCM was invited to this festival
and set up a booth to introduce the programs of the centre.
We also participated in some cultural performances including:
Tai Chi Sword, Tai Chi Fan, and Guzheng Performance by Ms. Ying-ru
Tan. It made all the audiences realized the characteristic of
Chinese culture, and this was a good cultural exchange and a
better understanding between ethnocultural groups. FCCM has
in turn invited JCCC to participate in our Taste of Asia Festival
in Markham on June 25 and 26, 2005.
