Toronto Celebrates Lunar New Year 2005

“The Toronto Celebrates Lunar New Year
2005” had taken place on February 4th – 6th
, 2005 at Automotive Building of National Trade Centre.
This is the largest celebration of the Lunar New Year in
Canada. This year, the performances included those from
other Asian communities, such as: Korea, Japan, Vietnam,
Thailand, Burma, Laos, Philippines, Indonesia, India, Singapore,
Malaysia and others. The festival creates a multicultural
atmosphere that featured dance, music, arts and crafts,
martial arts and wonderful food from all of the participating
countries.
The opening ceremony began at 7:00 pm. on
February 4th with a lively Dragon Dance. Alex Yeung, the
President of the festival gave thanks to all the guests.
The guests who showed up that night included: Jim Karygiannis
(M.P.Scarborough Againtcourt), Mario Racco (M.P.P. Thornhill),
Sandra Yeung Racco (Councillor of Vaughan), Olivia Chow
(Toronto City Councillor), Dr. Ken Ng (Chairman of FCCM),
Feng Shui Master Paul Ng etc.
After the ribbon cutting and awaken the lions ceremony,
the Wushu International lion and dragon dancers performed
a special Lion Dance and the world famous Shaolin Warrior
Monks from China showed off their awe-inspiring skills onstage.
The other features included Year of the Rooster predictions
from Feng Shui Master Paul Ng, “East Meets West”
fashion shows, pop-idol contests, pop-stars from Philippines,
God of Fortune visit, Korean drums, Chinese music ensemble
and much more!
Besides the onstage programs, there
were several exceptional programs and displays, e.g. “Mercy
in Heart”, Master Photographer Lik Fong Ng’s
exhibition and charitable sale for the Kidney Foundation
of Ontario, The “Silk Road” International Photo
Contest and Display organized by Canadian Foundation for
the Preservation of Chinese Cultural and Historical Treasures,
The C.C.Y.A.A. (Canadian Chinese Youth Athletic Association)
Sports Showcase, The Island of Formosa Showcase, International
Lunar New Year Children’s Drawing Display, The Canada-China
Development Association Business Showcase, The Community
Stage with calligraphy demonstrations and Chinese traditional
music performances.
