GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES TRILLIUM FUNDING TO THE FEDERATION OF CHINESE
CANADIANS IN MARKHAM
TORONTO
- The Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham received a
Trillium Foundation grant yesterday from David Tsubouchi, Minister
of Culture.
Minister
Tsubouchi presented the cheque for $291,700 to the organization
as part of the Eves government commitment to build healthy and
economically strong communities through strategic investments
in the area of Arts and Culture.
"It
is a pleasure to announce this $291,700 grant to the Federation
of Chinese Canadians in Markham," said Minister Tsubouchi.
"I am delighted that through the Ontario Trillium Foundation,
the provincial government is investing in cultural and arts
programs for communities across Ontario."
The
$291,700 grant is being awarded to the organization over five
years to create an inter-cultural website with information on
arts, recreation, and business services in the Chinese, Southeast
Asian, South Asian, Middle Eastern, Caribbean and African communities.
"This
grant will help us immensely to launch our new website with
the purchase of computer equipment and software, training materials
and promotional activities," said Chairman Dr. Ken Ng.
"We are grateful for the Ontario Trillium Foundation's
commitment to the arts and culture community."
Established
in 1989, the Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham has
been offering cultural and recreational programs to the Chinese
Canadian community in Ontario.
The
Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency of the Ministry of Culture,
receives annually $100 million of government funding generated
through Ontario's charity casino initiative. The Foundation
allocates grants to eligible charitable and not-for-profit organizations
in the arts, culture, sports, recreation, environment and social
service sectors.
