Sing Tao Daily:

As a move to restore consumer confidence and stimulate the economy in Markham after the trauma of “SARS”, the Town of Markham and the Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham hosted the "Taste of Asia" street carnival yesterday, attracting the attendance of 30,000 people of various ethnic backgrounds. It was the first time the town has blocked off the section of Kennedy Road outside Market Village, which is the busiest business junction of the district. Activities included a basketball tournament, dancing and singing performances, plus Chinese, Japanese, and Korean cuisine. Picture shows (from left to right) Mr. David Tsubouchi, Minister of Culture, Dr. Ken Ng, Chairman of Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham, Mme. Xiaoling Chen, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Toronto, and Mrs. Nancy Chan in their commemorative T-shirts, walking towards the stage for the opening ceremony.
