$291,700 GRANT FROM ONTARIO TRILLIUM FOUNDATION FOR INTER-CULTURAL WEBSITE [ www.culture-canada.ca ]

On February 15, 2003 (Saturday), from 3 to 5 p.m., at the Markham Chinese Cultural Centre (2nd Floor, Market Village Shopping Centre), a Chinese New Year V.I.P. Reception was hosted by FCCM.

Among the attendees were business professionals, community leaders, the media, Chinese consuls, Members of Parliament (Federal and Provincial), and majority members of the Town of Markham Council.

During the festivities and after the children dance performances, Ontario Minister of Culture David Tsubouchi officially announced that FCCM will receive, over the next 5 years, a total of $291,700 grant from Ontario Trillium Foundation for the creation of an inter-cultural website (www.culture-canada.ca) with information on arts/recreation/special events and business services in the Chinese, Filipino, South Asian, Middle Eastern, & African-Caribbean communities. A large display cheque for that amount was signed and presented to our Chairman of the Board, Dr. Ken Ng.

Finally, there was also an unveiling ceremony wherein two beautiful Stone Lions from China were presented by Chinese Deputy Consul General Pan Xin-Chun on behalf of the State Council of the People's Republic of China to our Markham Chinese Cultural Centre.
