MARKHAM – Dr. Ken Ng, Chairman, Federation
of Chinese Canadians in Markham and
President, Canadian Federation of Intercultural Friendship
welcomed The
Honourable Tony Clement, Federal Minister of Health, today
to FCCM’sChinese Cultural Centre in Markham. Minister
Clement announced that “My FoodGuide Online,”
a Web-based interactive tool launched as part of the newEating
Well with Canada’s Food Guide, is now available to
Canadians to print in multiple languages.
“Canada’s Food Guide has
been providing Canadians with important tips and messages
on healthy living for 65 years and today, Canada’s
NewGovernment is proud to launch this guide in 10 additional
languages,” said Minister Clement. “Along with
providing more culturally relevant foods from a variety
of ethnic cuisines, this updated interactive tool will help
makehealthy eating information available to Canadians who
are new to the country or lessfamiliar with English or French.”
“My Food Guide Online” allows users to personalize
Food Guide information based
on their age and sex, as well as food and activity preferences.Canadians
now have the option of completing the activity in English
or French, and printing their copy of My Food Guide in 10
other languages. The languagesinclude: Arabic, Chinese (traditional
and simplified), Korean, Persian, Punjabi,
Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, Tamil and Urdu.
Canada’s Food Guide has been one of
Canadians’ most trusted sources of information for
65 years. Over the past three years, Health Canada has consulted
approximately 7000 stakeholders including dietitians, scientists,
physicians and public health personnel, in order to develop
the new version of Canada’s Food Guide released on
February 5, 2007.
