Canada Day Parade - July 1, 2003

July 1st was a great day for Chinese Canadians, as we joined together and celebrated our nation’s birthday. We were proud that we came and supported our country of Canada.

The day was hot but the atmosphere was extremely joyous. The most spectacular site was of course the parade down McCowan Rd. to Milne Park. People were very impressed with the beautiful floats and the parade bands. They went at a mild pace down the road towards the park and were greeted with applause and cheers.

The Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham parade band was one of the larger ones participating, and was well represented by members of FCCM, Asian Canadian Entrepreneurs Professionals (ACEP), and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Markham (CCCM). Our own 8th Markham Boy Scouts of Canada was there in full gear, lending much colour to our parading band.

Thanks to everyone who participated on that day especially to Ray Chiu and Eric Viola for being instrumental in the organization of our group in this endeavour and to Alice Cheung for joining our parade with the White BMW and giving rides to our members in her car. We look forward to seeing you all at the Taste of Asia Street Festival coming on August 3, 2003.
